February 28

When we were in Kentucky for Andy's homecoming, we went to Fort Donelson, a Civil War battlefield. We were thrilled to spot this bald eagle there. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

This was one of the nicest barns we saw in Kentucky. Even the fences were well kept up! We noticed that a lot of the barns there had the unusual peak off the front and there were a lot of black barns, which I've never seen here in Michigan.

This is painted on the side of a building we visited in Nashville. It's the old Marathon Automobile building, which is now the site of Antique Archeology, a store run by Mike Wolfe of American Pickers on the History Channel. This building is beautiful, with old wood floors and brick walls, but the exterior is also beautiful and I loved this painting on the side of it.

We've just returned from a wonderful trip. Our son is in the army and just came back from Afghanistan, after being there for a year. We went to Kentucky for the homecoming event which was very moving.
As we drove around the area, I was really enjoying seeing the barns. Many barns seem to be unique to the area they are in.
This barn was very close to the army base. I loved the color and the vines growing on it. I also like the little cupolas.

I found this barn while out on a Sunday afternoon drive. I love the shape of this barn, the fence and the little windmill in the front of it.

Here's a view from the side.
