July 29

Look at these cool plants I found growing along the road today! There were several of them that had that purple ring around the center. The stems are very prickly. I don't remember ever seeing them before and I thought they were quite unique.

*Thanks to Ione and Cherdecor who sent me tips on identifying this plant. Ione thought it may be a cuckleburr and Cheryl thought it was an Irish Thistle. I looked them both up and the Irish Thistle it is. It's nice to have a name to go with the plant!

Those are cool! Add a couple of googly eyes and they could be an octopus with their legs in the air. And one with a purple headband! ;)

Very interesting! For some reason the purple reminds me of the floral head dresses the hula dancers were in Hawaii!

It has been a good many years since I have seen a cuckle burr, yet, this plant could very well be one. Although I did not know they blossomed, but why not?

Pretty in this stage, but not so pretty when there is a field of them choking out a crop.

The shape of this plant is the same as a dried cuckle burr I found online. Go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/17073444@N08/2225307635/

Oh, yes. Nice shot! :D

How different. God has created such a wide variety of sights for us and you capture them beautifully with your eye and that camera.

I think they are an Irish Thistle. There are many different kinds of thistles but this one is a beauty for sure!
