December 31

This is a barn I've wanted to photograph for some time, but during Summer and Fall, it can hardly be seen because of all the trees that surround it.
I like the double silos and the peak with the big opening.  It looks like it could use some TLC.  The door is off one side of that opening, the roof near the silos is completely off in some areas and the silos have no top.
It's size tells me that it's seen a lot of use through the years.

December 15

It's not looking like we're going to have a white Christmas here.  We usually have had quite a bit of snow by now, but this year things are different.
A local place that sells Christmas trees  decided to make some snowmen of a different variety.  These are made from those big round hay bales, wrapped in white plastic.

Barn Charm

Don't you love finding an unexpected barn?
Last week I drove down a country road to take a picture of a barn I have often looked at from a distance.  When I turned around I saw a barn roof  hidden in the brush.  A short drive brought me to this little barn.
It's just a simple barn, but I love the way the siding looks almost variegated.  I also like wooden fencing around it.

Barn Charm

I found this faded old barn about 20 minutes from my house.  There's really nothing special about the barn, but I really liked what was in the field next to it.

Lots of sheep!  They appear to be nice and warm in their winter coats.

We also saw this Alpaca, who stood at the fence and stared at me as I took his picture.

November 19

This is a barn in a nearby community that I pass fairly often.  I've always wanted to get a picture of it, but the road is often busy, and when all the leaves are on the trees, you can't see the barn well at all.
We don't see many barns painted this way around here.  I can't imagine how time consuming it would be to paint all those stripes!

This little corncrib sits behind the barn.  It looks like it's older and is not in very good shape, but I still like it.

November 12

It's time for Barn Charm, and I'm doing something a little different for it today.  Instead of an actual barn, I'm sharing a piece of art.
This is a painting that was entered into a local Art contest in our area.  I always notice barns, even when they're not the real thing!
I really like this barn, with it's flag and broken windows.  I also like the combo of the old time barn and the field of wind generators.

November 4

Today's barn is one of the most unusual barns I've ever shared. It's not much to look at from the side.
But, what if I tell you this barn used to be a church?
This was the little church I went to as a child.
A new building was put up in the 1970's and this building was purchased and moved to a field.  The steeple was removed
and so were some of the other elements that made it look like a church.

They put vertical siding on it and this garage door.  It was used for storage, but lately it's just been sitting unused in a field.

It's sad for me to see this, but if I look close, I can see touches of its old beauty!

October 31

I passed this tree last week loved the way the leaves were piled up.  I suspect some kids were having fun raking them into a big pile around the tree.  Regardless of how they got there, they make a nice picture!

October 29

Lately it seems like there are a lot of barns being torn down around here! I passed this barn regularly and was sad to see some heavy equipment working around it, and the siding being removed.
I turned around and got a few shots of it.
The next time I went by it was gone, with no sign that a barn ever stood there.  :(

October 22

I admire this old barn every time I drive by it.  I love it's shape and the cupolas.  I'm always surprised that it's still standing.  I was even more surprised when I passed it last week and noticed that it's being worked on.  The side that isn't visible in this shot has new wood going up.  I have to wonder if it's even safe to be working on, but I hope they are successful and save this one!

October 8

I was out for a country drive, enjoying the Fall colors and came across this barn.
It's another one that's charming in it's dilapidated state.
I like the red in the roof - matches the leaves!

I found this barn about 5 minutes from my house.  I don't know how I missed it before!
I love the vine, the star and the wagon wheels by the door.  I think the little shed near it is also quite charming.

September 24

I was driving down a country road not far from me when I came across this barn.  I think it may be the prettiest barn around!  It really is used as a barn, although it's nice enough that it looks like you could live there.  There are lots of trees around it, so it was hard to get a good picture.  The house that went with it was also nice, but I think in this case, the barn won!

This is a farm I worked at when I was in high school. It was a celery farm at that time. Now they also grow onions. The white you can see on the very left of the picture is a greenhouse where the celery start to grow. The cute little barn in front is where equipment is kept and the bigger pole is what is used the most. The celery is brought there to be cleaned, trimmed and packed. The little piece of machinery in the center of the picture is a celery planter. 4 people can sit in it. The outer part is taken off when the weather is nice, but in the early Spring it helps keep the planters warm.
I don't know if I've ever seen other blue barns but I like them here!

September 3

It was kind of a dreary day and I was out running errands when I saw this barn. I had to pull off the road and get a few pictures. I love the dark red color and the architecture of this barn. It's been kept up nicely.

This is the view of it from the road.

Who doesn't love a nice crop of sunflowers and a barn?

This farm with several outbuildings sits on top of a small hill, quite far back from the road. I really like the winding driveway that leads to the barns and I like the little barn with the long roof that sets next to the silo.

August 20

I came across this barn the other morning. I'm thinking it's good I saw it, because it doesn't look like it'll be standing long!

This shed was right next to it. I think it's kind of cute!

It was foggy this morning! The fog was spotty, but not too bad to drive in. It was a pretty drive in to work.

August 13

I drive past this beautiful barn nearly every day, but because it's on a busy road, I haven't gotten a picture of it. I had to work this past weekend, and I was admiring the beautiful sunrise. Because it was the weekend, there was very little traffic, so I pulled off and got a few shots.

This barn was owned by a dear couple that I knew. They were married for 64 years when he died rather suddenly last year. She passed away a few weeks ago. Up till a month before his death, I would still see him out mowing the lawn and working on the yard. They were both very active at home, church and around town. You can see how well this barn was taken care of.

Here's a shot showing the front of the barn.

I think a son is living there now, and it appears that he is also keeping everything looking good.

This old, weathered barn sits on a dirt road with mostly fields surrounding it. I think it's quite a charming old barn, even with the garage door, and the lean to that appears to have been added.

Barn Charm July 30

I was driving on a road out in the country when I came across this farm. I like the straight lines on this barn and the white foundation. And it's always nice to see horses!

This house goes with the barn. I included it because it's such a nice farm house!

It looks like some kids may live here. You gotta love a tire swing!

This is a barn that I drive by nearly every time I leave my house. I've posted it before, but had to share it again, because I love how it looks in the early morning light with the hay bales in the foreground.

July 16

There is a barn we frequently pass when we go to Bob's moms house. I have always liked it and wanted to get a picture of it, but the road is quite busy and I always thought I would get it later.
Well - last week there was an article in the paper about this barn. It was being taken down!
I live in West Michigan and this barn is being taken down and will be shipped to California where it is being rebuilt to be used as an office building.
I'm glad it's not just being demolished, but I was pretty upset with myself that I never got a picture of it. I went the next night and got these pictures of what remained of the barn.

You can see that this barn had a nice shape. I really like the little dormers on it.

Here is a view from the other side. In this view, you can really see the nice timber framing.

I wanted to include this cute little shed, which was just a few feet from the barn.

Now the barn is gone - I wish I could see it rebuilt, in it's new home!

This barn used to belong to my Grandpa. It looks exactly like I remember it looking when I was young, even the name. To the left of the barn is a small pond and when I was young, Grandpa would let us go fishing in it. Good memories!
Grandpa has been gone for 30 years now and it's nice to go past that barn and remember those times.

I wish I could have gotten a shot of this barn from the front, but it sat sideways next to the house. I like seeing the ramp built up to the big sliding door, and the garage door on the side.
