June 7

I was talking to my neighbor the other night when she asked me to come in so she could show me something.
Surprise! Look what she wanted to show me - a baby skunk!
She is a Physical Therapist and when she was at her office, 2 girls from an adjoining office asked her to come see what they had outside. This baby skunk was stumbling around. 2 other skunks had been removed from the property earlier that week and possible one was the mother. This one was too young to live on it's own, so my neighbor took it home with her. She found a place that would take care of it until it was old enough and then would release it back into the wild. It was only spending one night with them before going to the wildlife release place.
I must admit that it was quite cute, and when she reassured me that it was too young to spray, I even held it!

He - or she - is so adorable! Never thought I'd think a skunk was adorable! That's neat that you held it.

you won't believe this but we had a pet skunk when I was growing up. It's name was domino and it was "de-skunked". Domino was so sweet, but eventually turned wild and had to be set free. Now as a mom, I can't believe my mom allowed my brother to have a pet skunk!!!

Poor sweetie, but he is definitely cute. All baby animals (well, most of em!) are so cute.

You are one brave woman. I still don't think I would have held it spray or no spray.

My six children found a baby skunk one day. His mother must have been the one we had seen dead on the road the day before. There were three of them, but the one the kids brought home was the only one they could catch. Of course, I fixed a formula and took a doll bottle and fed the little critter. He was adorable.
It fell to me to take care of him. He soon outgrew his box behind the stove. Then had the run of the house. He was never de-scented. He soon had the run of the outside as well. Always came back to the house, however. Then the next spring, he did what all male skunks do. He left to find a wife. He brought her back with him and housed them under our chicken house!! They never bothered the chickens, however. Normally they would kill them.
Then he got more and more wild. Occasionally he'd show up on our steps wanting fish (herring) from the freezer - which used to be a treat for him.
The next Spring, we sold the little farm and moved to the city. We could not find him. Figured he was better off where he was because in the city he would need to be caged.
He made a fine pet.
Sara's Domino may not have made it in the wild because he had his first line of defense already compromised.
