The drought is so bad in Texas there is very little hay. A neighbor who normally gets 100 round bales off his meadow only got 17 in the first cutting this year and it is now questionable whether there will be another cutting. The norm is three cuttings during the summer! But I agree ~ the smell is so earthy! I just hope there's enough to smell this year!
My first comment didn't post so I am back again! I love the smell of hay too. When I was a child the hay bails were shaped differently. I have never seen them made. I would like to see the machine that makes these.
You all are doing the same thing we are here in VA. The field I just posted had TWO tractors cutting at the same time. I tried my best to get them side by side, but I was not successful...they are a little cat-i-wumpsed but I may post them just the same. This cut will be it till next year. Hope the farmers are happy. The fields look pretty good to me. Love your bales...Genie
I am a Christian wife, mom to 5 and Grandma to two adorable little girls. I have 2 daughters and a son who were born to me and 2 sons who joined our family by marrying our daughters. I have been married to a wonderful Christian man for over 30 years. I work as a nurse at a long term care center, where I am blessed to get to know many older people and their families.

I agree--there's something quite satisfying about a bale of freshly cut hale. Great pic!
I like the way you composed this shot with a huge bale in close and others behind. nice post.
Nice looking picture, thanks for sharing
It's begun here, too. The birds like to sit on the tops of the bales.
Seeing the round bales all over the fields here too. Great capture!
I love the bales! Manu
Farmers here have finished their first cut and bales are out in the fields too. I agree that it's a wonderful time of year.
I love it. especially the green green grass!
Beautifully captured! Makes me wish I lived back in the countryside!
love this picture and the colours of it! Sometimes I´ll see here such bales too !
Wonderful composition. Love this one. Beautiful photo work.
