September 16

Every year our Junior High youth group at church does a fun raiser to start the year. It's called Johnny's Drive In. The girls who are taking orders and bringing out the food wear these poodle skirts (Sorry - wrong angle to see the poodles here) and they use roller blades as they serve people in their cars. You can see the smoke from the hamburgers and hot dogs being grilled. They also have root beer floats and lemonade. To add to the 50's feel, there is 50's music playing and people come with their old cars. It's a fun thing to do and it helps the kids get funds for their year!

Patty told us about this and we completely forgot about it. No - we're not getting old and forgetful - just to busy sometimes. Sorry, just an excuse - we're getting old and forgetful!!

Oh, Oh, Oh, I remember you telling about this last year. What fun for the kids! I bet it gets better every year. A little experience never hurts.

NOW ya tell us! : ) Wouldn't it be cool if you could do something akin to a scratch and sniff blog....a virtual "root beer float!" I would go for that! Looks like you all had a fun time!!!

That is such a cool idea!!!! Great photo too even though the poodle is not visible...

I may suggest this as a possible idea for the youth group at our church. It is so different and sounds like such fun!

What a marvelous idea. Great way to get the students involved and raise money at the same time. Plus, the community gets in on the act too. Besides that, fun is had by all, and who doesn't like hamburgers and root beer floats? :D

Good job.

I love 50's activities. It's good the kids are wearing the rollerblades instead of me - they wouldn't fall as hard. Glad everyone had a good time.

Awesome idea! It's great the kids are learning how to give back in a fun way. They'll remember this their whole lives!
