March 5

Isn't this a great barn? I like its shape, the weathered wood, the setting and the stone foundation. I also like its story.
This barn belongs to my husbands brother. It started out in life as a much bigger barn, on a different property. When my BIL noticed a barn that was falling apart, he offered to take it down in exchange for the wood. He salvaged what he could and started building this barn on his property. He did much of the work with hand tools, and one day had a barn raising with many friends, family and people from church. The barn wasn't finished on that day but a lot was done.
We've all seen barns that were falling apart and I love how he took that old barn and made something beautiful and useful from it.

Here's a closer shot of the old implement in front of that stone foundation.

I love these barn much so the story. That we should do when there is a barn going to collapsed hehe. Instead of getting it to rot salvage what need to salvage because for sure many woods are still good for re-building.

This is a good-looking barn and the slanted roof adds much to its charm. Your BIL is a clever guy. Love the close shot also, that red equipment makes a nice contrast.

Oh Mari Sweetie...
What a gorgeous share this evening. I love barns, if they could only talk and share their stories. Each little weathered board and nail has a story I am sure.

Your BIL did a beautiful job. I am always so thrilled when I hear of folks that recycle these and let the history continue in another form.

A beautiful share. The photo is so serene. Have a glorious evening dear one. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

This barn has a nice shape to it. Your BIL did a good job and perhaps the old barn boards are happy to be reused.

A lovely story and a far better end than so many of the barns we see going to ruin! Great job on preserving that old wood, and wonderful shots you have provided of his labor of love. Wonderful post today!

What a great story to go with this beautiful barn! Love the stone foundation. Wish barn raisings were as common today as they were over a hundred years ago.

Mari, Thanks for putting the photos up of our barn, it looks great in your posts. FYI, the implement out front is an Allis Chalmers plow, (orange to be correct). And the inside of the barn is just as beautiful with the original beams and a John Deere tractor in the process of being restored. It was such a feeling of accomplishment to preserve the barn this way. Thanks for all your comments. BIL

I love the shape and color too and it's just the greatest that he built it with his own hands and the help of friends. Cool.

What a great way to save a barn. He's done a beautiful job restoring it and you've photographed it so well. You should blow up these photos, frame them, and hang them inside the barn!
