January 22

Thursdays are a big day at the Nursing Home where I work. The beautician comes every Thursday and the ladies line up to get their hair done.
A few years ago, a daughter of one of our residents came in and painted scenes on the walls of the beauty shop. Both the men and women enjoy coming here and being pampered.

Thats so nice. I used to work in a couple of nursing homes, part time when I went to school. I found it very rewarding, just keeping them company there.

Grandma used to book her days months at a time, and NOTHING, I mean nothing kept her from these appointments. They once had a fire drill while it was her turn and she refused to leave... I kid you not that poor hairdresser couldn't even go. A) she wouldn't leave Grandma behind and B) Grandma wouldn't get out of the chair! OH man that is funny to remember.

How wonderful that they get pampered!!! Now I'm going to pamper myself and have a very deep, very hot bubble bath and soak my sore tired body. What a treat. What a wonderful thing to have at our fingertips. Hot water, a warm home and bubbles and later in the evening a nice, soft, warm bed. I am blessed indeed.

My sweet G-ma, who has Alzheimer's, is in an assisted living home right now. One day a week, they get to be pampered a bit, too...it's well deserved!

When your hair looks good, you feel better about yourself. I'm so glad they can be pampered - they deserve it!

Didn't know you work in a nursing home. I've worked at two. You meet some really great people, don't you?

Mari - I didn't know you worked in a nursing home either. You are a special person to be able to do that. I love the paintings on the wall. I used to work in a nursing home when I was 17. Worked there for a year and then I couldn't take it anymore. I would fall in love with the patients and then they would die. When my absolute fav died I left--it just hurt to much!
