May 20

As you know I always take my camera along when I go walking. I love to take pictures of flowers, trees or maybe a bird. Today I didn't see anything cute when I was out. Instead, there was this snake sunning himself on the road. He just sat there while I took the picture, then slithered off into the grass at the side of the road. Although snakes don't thrill me, there really is something neat about the way they move!

that gives me the creeps just looking at it!!!

I grew up in AZ and the rattlers used to sun themselves on the road....we'd run over them!!

That creeps me out. I can't even look at a snake in the zoo or a book. When I was little I use to pray the Jesus would not let the snakes come under my bed. Oh I just got the shivers.

Snakes are part of God's creation just like hummingbirds. And none of us find hummers objectionable. I think our fear of snakes goes back to the garden of Eden. I don't mind them as long as they don't invade my territory. If they stay out in the yard where they belong - as long as they are black snakes or garter snakes, etc., - then it is okay. They will eat their weight in bugs and mice. But, if it were a coral snake, a water moccasin, or a rattler, then we are talking something else. I feel the same way about spiders. Black Widows aren't a threat to me because I am not about to crawl under the house or go digging about in a wood pile. But now the Brown Recluse (we live in the middle of "Brown Recluse Country") are in the came category as the rattler. (shudder!) I've known two different people personally who have been bitten by a Brown Recluse. Not pretty, folks. Not pretty!

I think you are very brave - I would have been running in the opposite direction. I can't even look at them in the zoo!!

I love this photo. You won't see many people posting pics of snakes. I don't mind them as long as they aren't in my house. We haven't seen any since we moved in the new house, but had a few in the old one.

Wait till I show this picture to Chad. He will LOVE it! You ought to see him handle snakes. He loves taking them to classrooms and telling the kids all about them.

I am surprised that this little guy allowed you to photograph him. You really got up close and personal. Maybe he was weak from hunger and couldn't slither off so quickly.

Chad says that the Bible says to subdue the earth so we should not be so fearful unless, of course, they are poisonous.

You really got a great picture this time! This is a keeper, for sure!

StellaDella saw this and said "That's Sonic Viper!" We finally released the snake that HH "rescured" last December last month. Maybe he slithered over to your area!

I have already seen snakes on the country but never on the road.
This is strange.
Perhaps it's neat because we can see all her body and in nature they behave in another way.
