February 28

I had a good day today. It was only 12 degrees this morning, but the sun's been shining! It's my weekend off and I got a lot done. I did some shopping, cooking and cleaning to get the house ready for our Bible study group to come over tomorrow night. After supper we were looking out into our backyard and noticed how dark blue the sky looked and then we saw that the Northern star and the moon were both visible. What a pretty night!

Look at the price I paid for gas this morning! Isn't that a great deal? Our local grocery store is having a deal where if you spend $100 on groceries, you get 50 cents off each gallon of gas. I had a 30 cent coupon already so instead of $1.85, I paid $1.05. I probably won't see that price again, so I thought I better take a picture!

February 26

It's a dreary, rainy day here. Tonight the temperature is supposed to drop and they say the rain will change to snow.
I was supposed to have today off, but one of the nurses called in to work so guess who got to go in? I guess with the way jobs are, I better not complain about working extra, right?
After work I went and had a badly need hair trim. It looks much better!
My beautician had these supplies in a window and I thought they looked kind of neat, all liked up!
PS - Kae - she said to tell you Hi!

So often winter is almost black and white - or maybe brown and white! When I was walking down my road, I was looking at the trees as usual. I noticed this tree with a sumac growing next to it. The red looked so pretty next to the dark tree trunk, with the backdrop of snow.

This is a view of the buffet at the Chinese restaurant in town. Bob and I had supper there tonight. One day a week I do rounds with the Dr at my nursing home. After he leaves, I have a lot of orders, charting and lots of family members to call and update, so I never know when I'm getting done with work. It's usually at least 5 pm, so Bob and I go out on those nights.
Tonight I was done by 4:30, but we still went out!
My supper was good and here is the fortune that was in my cookie.
"You will get most anything you want because of your charm and pleasant personality"
Hmm - I don't know about that!

February 23

We got quite a bit of snow again on Saturday and Saturday night. The ground has a nice fresh covering for a few days. We're told it may warm up a little this week and melt some of this snow.
Bob made a trek through the back yard and I liked seeing the footprints in the otherwise undisturbed snow.

Sunday was a hard day for our church. Our beloved Pastor Paul has been called to another ministry. He is a chaplain in the Navy Reserves and has been called to Washington DC to begin a new chaplain program for the Merchant Marines. He has been at our church for almost 8 1/2 years and has been such a blessing to us.
Paul and his wife Nancy have been good friends and I know this isn't a forever goodbye, but it is the end of their time here in our church fellowship.
This picture was taken this morning when some of the church leaders commissioned Paul and prayed for him as he begins this new calling.

It's snowing. And blowing. All day.
I had to work today and we didn't have many visitors because of the slippery roads. It's been snowing most of the day and the visibility is down because of the wind.
This is the view from my front window. The weathermen are getting excited because they think we are going to set a record for the amount of snowfall in a year. I don't really care about setting those kinds of records. Sunshine and warmer temperatures sound wonderful! I'll really appreciate it when they come!

Today was a sad day at the Nursing Home where I work. Our Administrator is leaving to work in another Nursing Home. He has been a wonderful person to work for, someone that cares about staff and residents. He has always been willing to listen to us and family members were always welcomed in to talk about anything they needed to. He does special things for our residents including taking some of the guys out to McDonald's frequently.
We had a farewell lunch today which his wife and 2 of his sons were able to come to.
The place he is going to has had a lot of problems and I think he will be a great help to them. We all wish him well!

February 19

It's been a weird weather day here. It goes between snowing and blowing to little glimpses of sun. When I left for work this morning there was about an inch of snow on the ground near us and a few miles away there was no snow at all.
Down the road from my house is this open field that has a few trees along the road. I thought this view through the trees to the open field with the snow blowing made a neat contrast.

So - this doesn't look too pretty or positive does it? I was at work today when I got a call from my sister wondering if I could take her to urgent care this afternoon to get some IV fluid put in. She has been sick for over a week and has already done this once, and is still dehydrated. Her hubby was going with their daughter on a school field trip, so I went along on this one. They are doing some tests to figure out what is going on with her as it seems worse than the flu. I'm praying they figure out what is wrong and she starts feeling better soon!

While I was on my walk late this afternoon, I realized the moon was visible in the sky. Doesn't it look pretty shining over those bare branches?

Here's the sun setting tonight. This picture didn't turn out like I had hoped. We have too many trees around our house to see the sunset, but I was seeing the sky beautifully colored and lit up from the sunset. I hopped in the car and went down the road to try and snap a picture. The sky was still beautiful, but the sun was so bright it masked the colors. It's still pretty, but in a different way!

It's snowing again! No matter how tired I get of snow and cold, I'm always amazed by the beauty of fresh fallen snow, especially when it covers the trees. It makes my walks so enjoyable when I am again reminded of the beauty God gave us in His creation.

Happy Valentines Day!
I was up first this morning and when I went back into our bedroom I saw my hubby had made the bed and put these two bears together on it. They are bears my sister-in-law made along with the clothes. They usually sit on top of an armoire, but he puts them together like this occasionally, usually on our anniversary or Valentines day.

Tomorrow is our daughter Heathers, birthday. Our son is in the army and is stationed in Korea. Since he can't see her in person he ordered flowers for her. To avoid the Valentines day rush, he had them sent to her at work today.
These tulips are a nice reminder of spring and warmer weather coming soon!

February 12

It's been another cloudy day today. The temperature has dropped to about freezing. Because of the warm temperatures that melted so much snow, followed by rain, we have some flooding around us. Nothing serious, but it's making things messy. This is an area that is usually just a dry ditch, but this week it's looking like a little stream!

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday was beautiful and sunny. Today - not so much. It was extremely foggy this morning, with most of the schools around us being delayed for two hours. I drove slowly to work and when I was almost there, realized I had just driven past the road the nursing home was on because I couldn't see it.
This picture is taken out a side window of the nursing home this morning. Kind of a dreary sight, don't you think? It's also been raining all day so there are puddles and mud all over.
It has gotten colder as the day progressed and we are supposed to get snow for the next 3 days.

Today was such a wonderful day. The skies were blue, the sun was shining and I was lucky enough to have the day off! I cleaned out some closets and even opened the windows for a few minutes to let in some fresh air. The temperature reached 59 degrees today which is highly unusual for February in Michigan.
I took this picture of a tree as I was on my daily walk. I thought the branches against the bright blue sky were beautiful!

We had "Glamour Shots" at the Nursing home today. All the ladies were invited to come and have their hair done, makeup applied and get their nails done. After they were all dolled up, they put on boas and had their picture taken
They had such fun. Some of them were really hamming it up for the camera and of course they enjoyed being pampered. This little lady is 91 years old. She was giving me her best pose here!

After I got out of work this afternoon we went to visit a friend who is in the hospital. We were happy to hear some good reports from her. On our way out I stopped to take a picture of this fountain that's in the lobby. The glass pieces are prisms, so it looks very colorful, from whatever angle you look at it!

It's another beautiful day here. The sun has been shining all day and it's unseasonably warm, which I'm loving! I had to work today and took a little walk when I came home.
This field is down the road from my house and in the summer there are horses inside the fence. You can see that the snow is melting, as it's not as smooth on top as it once was.
Soon we will see horses grazing in the green grass!

February 6

What a beautiful day! The sun is shining and it's warmer! I think we were supposed to hit 40 today and that's a veritable heatwave.
It makes it so much easier to walk when it's not so cold out. I take my camera out with me every time I walk because you never know when you will see a picture waiting to be taken.
This wooded area is down the street from my house and I thought it looked pretty in the sun, with the shadows falling on the snow.

It's another cold day here, but the sun is shining brightly. When I cam home from work I noticed that these icicles hanging outside my kitchen window were sparkling in the sun. The sunshine does make the cold weather more tolerable!

February 4

I went for a cold walk this afternoon. The temperature was 14 but the sun was shining brightly. When I got on the road in front of our house, I saw this one lonely leaf setting on the snow bank. We have a lot of oak trees around our house and they tend to hold on to their leaves into the beginning of winter. However, most of the branches are now bare. I thought the one leaf laying against the snow was interesting.

These little berries are hanging from a decorative tree that's near the patio at the Nursing Home. It looks so pretty with the layer of snow that is covering it.

We went to some friends home last night for Bible study. They collect cast iron pans and have a wall of their kitchen lined with them. This is only 6 of the 25 or more different pans.

What a beautiful sunrise we had today! I took this picture as we drove to church this morning. I was really glad I had taken my camera along. I'm learning to take it with me, as I missed some beautiful pictures without it!
